English and Drama Department Update - ACE Schools

By Abi Richards ~ HoD English and Drama ACE Schools

World Book Day on 4th March saw many of our young (and not so young) people celebrating their favourite authors and stories and sharing information. Despite many of our usual activities being ‘off limits’ under current restrictions, this didn’t stop the most determined and inventive from enjoying the day! “At Primary, we have been celebrating World Book Day both in school and on our online lessons. We have written book reviews, character descriptions and fact files. We have explored different stories through a book scavenger hunt and we have had lots of story time! We also loved dressing up as our favourite characters.”

As part of our whole school offer for improving students’ reading, we have allocated funds for ‘reading for pleasure’ books to all bases. These texts are designed to promote independence and a love of reading. Student reviews coming soon, so watch this space!

Year 11 students who access the Arts Award through their English, Drama and Art lessons will be working towards completing their digital and physical portfolios next term… The joy of the Arts Award is its flexibility, allowing students to develop their skills and create art in any form or medium – they can mix them up too! This is the first year that the Arts Award has been on offer at ACE and we look forward to seeing the students’ hard work come to fruition. To find out more about the Arts Award click here: Arts Award
